TuckShop’s Peter Pan is saucy and riotous - a lot to swallow but well worth it! *wink wink*
This very adult and very silly pantomime is a chaotically good time. Not for the prudish or faint of heart - this panto has all the hilarious references and star power. With this fantastic cast, this panto answers the burning question of: what if Peter Pan was an absolute horn dog and Captain Hook was afraid of a vibrating croc?
Leading the cast as Captain Hook is the one and only Ginger Johnson - the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5, and well known for being nothing more than a helium balloon in the shape of a woman. Johnson’s portrayal of Captain Hook is everything we love in a Panto villain - fantastic costumes, over-the-top acting and even a touch of burlesque!
The star-studded cast features some very well-known and industry-leading drag artists. Kitty Scott Claus plays Wendy - hilariously posh and absolutely naive. Cheryl (formerly known as Cheryl Hole) plays Michael - dressed in a hysterical camel-toe revealing onesie. Yshee Black plays Smee - the loveable sidekick who has some of the best lines like ‘When will the ableism end?!’ Mahatma Khandi plays Ethel Mermaid - a beautiful siren who gets taken captive, but ultimately just wants to have fun. And Ophelia Love plays both Tinkerbell and Villager No. 4 - wildly unhinged at times.
But the two truly breakout stars of this raunchy panto were Kate Butch as John and Richard Energy as Peter Pan(sexual). These two were truly spectacular in their performances, bringing such fresh humour in their improv. Butch was mesmerising to watch every time they were on stage, and it was so fun to see how they kept making their other castmates break at times. Energy was both vulgar and charming - which is not an easy mix to achieve.
Between the uproariously improvised moments and commentary, and the fantastic singing and dancing (did anyone say Matilda AND High School Musical?) - this is everything you’d want in an adult panto. The costumes were fab and the characterisations were hysterical. The dancing was fierce and ultimately, it was one hell of an entertaining night!
If you happen to catch TuckShop’s Peter Pan, get ready to see some amazing Drag talent do what they do best - putting on a show and making us laugh.
